SAVE JAYCEE PARK FROM DEMOLITION

The current plans put forth by the Cape Coral City Council call for the complete destruction of the waterfront replaced by a concrete seawall and paved promenade. In addition to ripping out all the shade trees, city council proposed replacing the grass and serenity with a music venue, bistro and bar, and a smattering of food trucks. Don't forget the boat docks, which would involve marring, scarring and otherwise annihilating the entire shoreline and all that lives there.

PLEASE TAKE YOUR NOISE, SMELLS, COMMOTION AND BOOZE SOMEWHERE ELSE

Just because we love nature and serenity doesn’t mean were a bunch of pushovers. True, we’d much rather laugh and play than scream and fight. But we’re ready to defend our park. We’re going to tap into the power of the people, the legalities and the Universe to do what we can to save Jaycee Park.

PROPOSED PLANS FOR CAPE CORAL'S JAYCEE PARK

APPROVED AT THE MAY 3 CAPE CORAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING

The exact wording of the agenda item:

(5) Resolution 93-23 Approve Agreement #CON-RCP2237AP, with Pennoni Associates, Inc. to provide Final Design services for Jaycee Park Improvements project for a not-to-exceed amount of $573,565; and authorize the City Manager or designee to execute the agreement, change order(s), and purchase orders; City Manager’s Office/CIP Division; Dollar Value $573,565 (General Fund – Parks and Recreation Capital Project Fund)

The City tried to back-pedal, saying the approval was just for “Final design services” and not the actual final design. Oh, we citizens are so fearful because we simply misunderstood what that really meant. That just meant they were hiring the firm to put together a proposed plan.

Right now you can relax in the shade. Right now you can hang out with family, friends, groups, organizations and absorb the natural beauty.

Help us keep it that way!
